My Audio System

Please sit back, and let me take you to a world of my audio.

Let's start with the moderator, my computer. It's a Toshiba Tecra M5. Without it, nothing can I be done with my audio.

My external hard-disk. Another important stuff for me. OK, actually everything is important for me. If you ever wonder why I need a external harddisk, well, I can just tell you that my music files take a storage space of over 91GB, and my notebook harddisk storage is just 80GB. And I still haven't counted my photos and videos.

This is the USB port which I connect to mouse and external harddisk.

And this is another USB port to connect to something. You will know about it later. And please be reminded that I have no USB port left. Poor me.

And this is what i am connecting with. Creative Xmod, a good external solution to "sucking computer processed source". At least for me, I can't bear the sound that is produced without this thing. You can treat it as a sound card anyway.

From my Xmod, I connect hear. Altec Lansing FX6021. I love Altec Lansing! It is very good, and it is cheaper if compared to other brands. This set of speaker cost me $270, and I think it really worths it. I saw a set of speaker at Creative store that cost $269, and that was much much worser than this one.

The console of Altec Lansing FX6021. The strange structure on top of it is used to put the remote controller. And yes, it has a remote controller!

The satellite of my Altec Lansing from different angle. Look very fascinating and attractive. And it has 6 drivers(that's the round thing inside), 2 satellite mean 12 drivers. You won't really know the superb sound it is producing unless you come my room and hear it yourself.

driver (′drī·vər)
(computer science) A sequence of program instructions that controls an input/output device such as a tape drive or disk drive.
(electronics) The amplifier stage preceding the output stage in a receiver or transmitter.
(engineering acoustics) The portion of a horn loudspeaker that converts electrical energy into acoustical energy and feeds the acoustical energy to the small end of the horn.

And that's another plug for headphone.

This is my headphone. Philips SHP895. Bought it in Malaysia, and I used to hear this before I buy my Altec Lansing FX6021. But for now, I seldom use it, just because hearing to a speaker is more enjoyable than hearing to a headphone.

Note that I used "Altec Lansing FX6021" to describe my speaker, because that is not the only Altec Lansing of mine. Indeed, I have a set of Altec Lansing FX4021 in my home in Malaysia, and I have this set of Altec Lansing headphone. This is bought before my Philips, and it has a noise-cancelling function on it. But it has broken before, so the noise-cancelling function just seems like not working. But nevermind, it is still my favourite when I am traveling outside.

OK, that's all for my hardware part, so here is my software part.

Every computer will need a software to play the music file, and this is the most frequently used program for me. Note that I am still studying something, and this time is physics.

And this is the second program I will use. Alien's Foobar 2000. Use more frequently when I am watching webcast, because the sound adjust function is independent, while the previous one's sound adjustment is embedded with the master volume control.

OK, Window Media Player, ranked number 3. Well, I just use this when the other two program is occupied (like when I don't want to disturb the playlist of them), or when I want to watch a wmv movie.

Real player, used only to watch .rm or .rmvb movies.

Apple's QuickTime. Can't really understand why is it in my computer, because I never used it before.

And the last one, Sony's Sonic Stage. I use this to configure my Sony mp3 player, and I quite hate to use this one, because of the disability to encode characters of other languages.

So that's all for my audio system. No future plan to expand the system yet, because I am very satisfied with it at current moment.

And please don't think that I am "rich". Many people have think that I am rich, because I am using good set of audio system. I am as poor as many other, just that I am willing to pay for these audio equipments. I do believe that many others can afford to buy these also, but they just think that these are very expensive, and they never consider of buying these.

Please really think about it, the most expensive thing in my audio system is the Altec Lansing FX6021 speaker (of course no need to compare computer), and it is $270. Well, can anyone tell me for sure that, he or she can't afford to buy it at all?
