Limit

A lot people keep emphasizing the importance of embouchure to me, that I should just stick to one instrument forever and do not ever touch other instruments. I don't take that.

What I think is, embouchure can be adjust easily according to the instrument. Your lip is not metal, it can be changed easily. What you need to do, is just forget about all other instruments and think only that instrument.

As compare to last year, I play all instruments (that I can play) better than last year. Maybe is just my imagination, but who knows?

Such instruments are like flute, piccolo, oboe, english horn, all saxophones, clarinets, bassoon (which Xiu Mei scold me a lot when playing), euphonium, tuba and maybe trumpet.

Flute and piccolo, my first instruments, even if I stopped for one sem, I can still take up and continue quite easily. Like Qicai said, the tone is still far from good, but I feel that I can play a more nicer tone than before.

Oboe and English horn, no need to say. I have been practising so hard.

Saxophones, a few years ago I cannot even play. Now, just take up one and easily I can play.

Clarinets for me are harder than saxophones. Higher clarinets are still quite difficult for me now, but lower clarinets I feel like even easier than saxophones. Just that the lower (such as contrabass clarinet) need too much of air, and I still need to train that.

Bassoon, my worst instrument in woodwinds. Simply because bassoon need a far more looser embouchure than others. In a way, I agree that the bassoonist cannot change instrument, because if their embouchure get tense, they die.

Euphonium and tuba, brass instruments that I like more. For me before, playing brass instruments are like impossible. But now I can easily reach the pedal range of both and middle up range. Forget about the high-high range.

Trumpet sounds the most unbelievable. Actually I don't think I can play trumpet well, but Dennis was the one who said I can. I mean the lower range of course, as I cannot even reach the middle range. But he said I can play forth trumpet very well because my air is very consistent and sustain well (thanks to my English horn). Argue with him if you disagree.

But why am I putting "Limit" as topic?

Simple, because although I believe that one can actually master all instruments, but one will never have enough time to achieve so.

I have of course chosen English horn as my first instrument. People say, "you cannot just play English horn". Then of course I need to choose another instrument. Then the option is big.

Oboe? Qicai said already 2 oboist, the third one will be redundant and somehow will spoilt the balance. Tuning? What is that?

Flute? Don't know... feeling a bit lost with flute... Qicai's is up there and somehow makes me feel that I cannot reach his level in my life time.

Saxophone? Cannot leh, Christopher die die don't want to let me play...

Clarinet? Don't feel like learning the fingering for lower register leh...

Bassoon? Xiu Mei will just kill me.

Euphonium? Fairoz said no space for me.

Tuba? Oh ya, haven't asked Daniel yet.

Trumpet? Quite stupid to play English horn and trumpet right? You think "Quiet City" meh...

So, in conclusion, just like last concert lo... English horn or nothing else.
